Math Art Museum (September 28, 2019)
A record of the solo exhibition and workshop “Math Art Museum,” held on September 28, 2019.
Concept
At the heart of this project is the claim that mathematical formulas are themselves a form of art. Where conventional art expresses through paint or the camera, this project takes mathematical notation as its medium.
Program
Exhibition
Seven equations by celebrated physicists including Newton and Einstein were exhibited. Visitors engaged with the works by copying them by hand and reading them aloud. The Feynman diagram in particular is noted as “a method that deliberately abandons the form of the equation, embedding its meaning within a diagram instead.”
Workshop
Structured around two axes — appreciation and creation — and held twice, from 13:30 to 15:00 and from 16:00 to 17:30. Participants experienced expressing themselves from a mathematical point of view.
Audience
The program was designed to be open to everyone, including those with no specialist knowledge of mathematics or art.
